May your vase never run dry--Flower Farmer's Blessing
You love flowers. I know you do, because you hang out here with me. I also know peonies are your favorite, because whose favorite aren't they? But, the thing that breaks all our hearts, that wounds us all to the very soul, is the brevity of peony season. For a few sparkling, magical weeks in spring, we have the unutterable joy of peonies in our vases, and all is right with the world.
But what about the rest of the year? When you've fallen for flowers, especially the bright, fresh vibrancy of locally-grown flowers, nothing else will do. That vase must be filled for your life to feel complete.
Luckily, I know a lot of flower farmers across the South Carolina Upstate who can help us fill our vases and our lives with flowers. I've spent the last few weeks pestering them to tell me exactly when they'll have flowers, and exactly where, so that I could compile an easy-to-use list for you in calendar form. You'll find it here.
To use the calendar, just find the month, then find a town nearest you that has flowers. Subscriptions and special orders require lead time, so keep that in mind.
If you don't live in South Carolina, as I know many of you do not, it may be that there's a local flower farmer's group or association that will be happy to compile a similar calendar for you. Ask your (second) favorite flower farmer.
When you use this calendar, would you take a second to let me know? I love to hear about your flower adventures.
May your life bloom all year,
Erin
